‘Toxic’: Beauty blogger sues over ‘false accusations’
An online makeup artist who wrote a blog post claiming to have been abused by her ex-husband’s former partner says she’s suing the man for defamation.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
“The defamation claim is baseless and defamatory,” says Jessica L. Gomez, a New York makeup artist and founder of the site Femme, Beauty and Art.
“I feel terrible for what he’s done to me.”
A former partner of the ex-wife, a photographer and model named Jennifer, has been accused of stalking her and abusing her physically and emotionally.
Jennifer was fired from her job as a makeup artist for a modeling agency after a video surfaced showing the ex, who had been married for four years, taking nude pictures of her.
The woman, who also goes by the name Stephanie, says she and her ex shared an affair and had been separated for years.
Jennifer alleges that her ex was using her to get his money, and she says he also sexually harassed her when she was a teenager.
“He raped me in my bedroom,” she said in a video interview published by the news site TMZ.
“And it was all over my face.
And I couldn’t breathe.”
The ex-partner, who the woman identified only as a “supermodel” in the video, has denied all the allegations.
Jennifer says she was in a relationship with Jennifer for four to five years and divorced him in 2016 after they had a baby.
Jennifer has not been charged in the case.
In a blog posting, Gomez says that she is suing the husband, who has not yet responded to the allegations in the TMZ video.
She says the man “has a long history of making false allegations against women, and has targeted me, my business, my clients and my community for decades.”
Gomez’s blog post says she met Jennifer in 2014 at the Playboy Mansion, where she worked at the time.
She had been dating a friend of her former boyfriend’s at the mansion, and when she saw Jennifer, she immediately asked to meet her in person, she wrote.
Jennifer, who said she’s been married since 2013, said she went with Gomez to the mansion because she wanted to meet the husband of her ex’s lover, and they ended up talking for a while in the bedroom.
Goya said she asked her former partner to put on a mask and tell her he didn’t want to meet his former lover.
Goyas blog post includes photos of Jennifer and Goya in the nude, wearing latex gloves and masks, holding a bottle of perfume in each hand.
Ganymede, a makeup company that manufactures makeup for celebrities, said it is aware of the blog post and is investigating it.
Gays-and-lesbians makeup, fashion and beauty industry is booming, and many of its artists and models are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender.
A 2016 survey by the National Center for Lesbian Rights and Equality found that gay and transgender makeup artists made up more than 50% of all makeup artists and more than 20% of women’s makeup artists.
In 2017, the National Association of Black Beauty, Beauty, and Fashion Professionals and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation reported that more than 80% of gay, bisexual, transgender and queer makeup artists surveyed felt unsafe and discriminated against.
A 2017 survey by The National Center of Lesbian Rights found that transgender makeup artist Janice K. Lee, who is also the founder of The Fashion Show, said her business is among the most underfunded of any makeup artists in the country.
“People are very hesitant to hire makeup artists because they don’t want the backlash,” Lee told the New York Times in 2016.
“They’re afraid of being judged.
They’re afraid they won’t be paid.
They want to be treated like professionals.”
In January, the New England Journal of Medicine published a study that found that the number of transgender people being treated for gender dysphoria has jumped since 2015, from 2,000 to 7,000.
Transgender people often face discrimination, including in housing, jobs, public accommodations and access to medical care.
A transgender woman from New Hampshire who was a contestant on The Voice in 2017 said she was told she was too fat to play the show because she has “a very masculine voice.”
In a separate 2016 study, the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund found that more transgender people were killed in 2017 than in any other year.
The Center for American Progress reported that at least two transgender people have been murdered in the U.S. this year.
“We’re in a very dangerous place,” said Jennifer, adding that she’s also a “sick person” who can’t get an abortion because of her gender identity.
“My partner is a bully and my husband is a monster.”
