How to Make It in a Day Without a Makeup Artist
The beauty industry is full of “glamour” and “boutique” makeup, but how many of us are actually doing our makeup in our own homes?
The answer is, pretty much none.
“The reality is that most of us don’t really do makeup in the bedroom,” says Nicole O’Connor, a makeup artist at The Face Shop in Los Angeles.
“We’re all doing our hair, makeup, and makeup-less makeup, so I guess that’s what it’s all about.”
The beauty world’s obsession with glamour makeup is especially true for women of color, O’Brien says.
“It’s such a powerful thing to do in this society,” she says.
There’s something about the fact that you can’t get it done anywhere else that’s kind of liberating.
And makeup is a way to get that look done at home.
The best thing about having a face-to-face appointment, says O’Connors mom, is that the makeup is all about what you can see, not what you’re wearing.
“That’s a beauty.
You can look at your skin and your eyes and you can make it,” she said.
The reality is, most of you don’t actually do makeup.
We’re all working, we’re all traveling, and we’re getting a little tired.
And then, you’re not really going to be able to do your makeup in your own home.
O’Donoghue is a makeup artists’ assistant who lives in Chicago, where she is working on her makeup for the upcoming fall season.
She says her makeup has been made up since she was in elementary school, but it has only grown over the years.
“I started wearing makeup because I had to,” she explains.
“But it’s always been my favorite thing to wear.
It’s such an important part of who I am.
It has such a power over me.
I love it.
It makes me feel good.
It feels like I’m really doing my makeup.”
O’Doghue’s favorite makeup items are makeup brushes and eyeshadow sticks.
“There’s so many things that make me feel like I am my best,” she laughs.
“You know, the brushes, the eyeshadows, the eyeliner.
It goes on really well.”
So what are makeup trends right now?
O’Kelly, a beauty consultant in New York, says that a lot of people don’t wear makeup because they don’t think it’s necessary.
“And they think that people are doing it in a certain way, and that’s it,” O’ Kelly says.
Othman, a cosmetics assistant in Los Angles, says her work is largely done in the home and that she loves makeup but that she does have some concerns about it being worn too much.
“As an artist, I am more of a DIY person, so if I’m not going to wear makeup, I’m going to make my own,” she tells Bustle.
“My advice to anyone who wants to try to make their own makeup is just do it!
If you’re really into the idea of trying to make your own makeup, then I have a bunch of recommendations that I can share with you.
It might sound cheesy but you don`t have to have a face and make up, and you don’ need to do makeup.”
She also suggests making up a few eye shadow and lip colors in the bathroom, then mixing it all together in the studio and applying it to your face and neck, before going to the beach.
“For makeup to really work, it needs to be made up,” Othmans advice says.
But if you do make your makeup at home, what can you wear?
The beauty of having makeup on at home is that it allows you to be creative, Othms advice says, and it’s a great way to add depth to your looks without wearing too much makeup.
“If you want a nice face and a great complexion, makeup is the way to go,” O thmans advice advises.
“Makeup can really add depth and lift up the eyes and create a really nice shape.
And the best thing to say about it is, you can use it for any look.”
