A-League clubs are eyeing a new kit sponsor – but how will it play out?
With only one new sponsor already confirmed for the A-league this season, the potential for a second is now huge.
A brand-new kit sponsor is expected to be announced at a later date, with the AEDC having previously hinted at a potential partnership with Nike.
But how will this partnership play out in practice?
Here’s what we know about the new shirt sponsor and where we stand in the race to sign a new deal.
The A-Ladder logo on the back of the A League Cup shirt.
The logo was introduced by the club as part of the sponsorship deal between the AFA and AEC in 2006, before it was redesigned for the 2015/16 season.
The new shirt sponsors will include Nike, which has an exclusive deal to provide a unique identity to the club.
Nike is the global market leader in the sports apparel market and is the second largest sporting goods retailer in the world.
Nike’s sponsorship of the Melbourne Victory was a major boost to the Aussies A-team this season.
It was the first time Nike had worn a jersey in a A- League game, and was seen as a way to highlight Victory’s success on the international stage.
Nike will also be the official kit sponsor of the Victory and have a significant presence in the Aussie market.
But the biggest news is likely to be the AEC’s decision to sign up to the Adidas brand as the new kit sponsors, a deal which will see the brand’s global headquarters based in the Netherlands.
Adidas is the official home of the German football team Bayern Munich and has been the official partner of the Socceroos for the past four years.
The brand will be joined by other top football clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, and the English Premier League’s Manchester United.
