Which brand is best for your skin?
Acrylic makeup organizer has become a standard in beauty, with more brands making their own versions of it.
Now, an Instagram user has launched a Kickstarter campaign to build a new version that looks and feels like the original.
“We want to bring our vision to life, but we’re not going to do it by hand,” cofounder and CEO Andrew Clements told Business Insider.
“What we’re going to build is a completely custom, machine-powered, user-friendly, beautiful-looking product.”
The campaign, called Make Up for Your Skin, asks for $10,000 to develop a product that will be the same as the original, but at the same price.
The $10k goal includes an early prototype of a skin-tightening cream, but Clements said they are also aiming to bring a full-blown product in the future.
“This is something we can’t do by hand anymore,” he said.
“So, the key here is to make it easy to get the product, and we want to make sure that if you do buy it, it’s the right product.
That way, you don’t end up spending a fortune on something that’s not really worth the money you paid for it.”
Acrylic has been around since the 1950s, but it was a hit with the 1950 film The Producers and has since been adopted by brands including Giorgio Armani, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, and Urban Outfitters.
Today, there are over 60 different brands of acrylic makeup, with the largest brands being Aveda, Lancome, Clinique, L’Oréal, and Clinique+.
“If you’re in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, you’re probably still buying your own acrylic,” Clements added.
“And I think that’s the beauty of it: It’s so versatile.
It can be a moisturizer, a foundation, a concealer, a lip color, a blush, it can be for your face.
There are so many different ways to use it.
It’s a lot of fun to think about.”
The company has also launched a line of lipsticks that include pigments in a range of shades.
Makeup artist and Make Up For Your Skin cofounder Andrew Cinges told Business Insiders that his company is “working hard” to make the new product available to the masses.
The campaign will include two tiers of backers, with $5,000 going to an online shop that will create a custom version of the product.
The next tier of backers will get a more complete version, and a third tier will receive a more limited version that will include three pigments.
“The final goal is to create a whole line of products for women, which is why we’re putting so much effort into making sure that we have a line,” Cinges said.
Make Up is also looking to expand its product range, with plans to expand the line to other brands like Make Up Forever, which will be launching a range in September.
The company is also offering $200 for a lifetime subscription, which includes the option to use a skin tinting brush, a brow pencil, and eyeliner.
